Francis E. Kelly

Francis E. Kelly (born March 26, 1903 in Boston , Massachusetts , † January 1982 ) was an American politician . Between 1937 and 1939 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Massachusetts.

Career

After studying law and being admitted to the bar, Francis Kelly began working in the profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1929 and 1933 he was a member of the Boston City Council. In 1940, 1948, 1952, 1956 and 1960 he took part as a delegate at the respective Democratic National Conventions . In 1932 he was a substitute delegate.

In 1936, Kelly was elected Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts, alongside Charles F. Hurley . He held this office between 1937 and 1939. He was Deputy Governor . He later served as Attorney General of his state between 1949 and 1953 . He died in January 1982.
