Joel Hayden

Joel Hayden ( April 8, 1798November 10, 1873 in Haydenville , Massachusetts ) was an American politician . Between 1863 and 1866 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Massachusetts.

The sources on Joel Hayden are very poor. What is certain is that he lived in Williamsburg at least for a time and was a member of the Republican Party . In 1862 he was elected lieutenant governor alongside John Albion Andrew . He held this office between 1863 and 1866. He was Deputy Governor . He must have been relatively wealthy, having donated a bronze sculpture called Sabrina to Amherst College in 1859 . Hayden died on November 10, 1873 in the city named after him Haydenville in Hampshire County .
