Donald R. Dwight

Donald Rathbun Dwight (born March 26, 1931 in Holyoke , Hampden County , Massachusetts ) is a former American politician . Between 1970 and 1975 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Massachusetts.

Career

Donald Dwight comes from a well-known Massachusetts family of politicians whose members have held various offices at the state and local levels. They also had a newspaper in Holyoke. He attended Deerfield Academy and then studied until 1953 at Princeton University . After two years of military service in the United States Marine Corps , he worked for his family's newspaper. Within the newspaper industry he soon became a member of several press associations. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a Republican . Between 1963 and 1966 he worked for the Massachusetts State Government's public procurement contract. In January 1969, Dwight was appointed Commissioner of Administration and Finance of the state government .

In 1970, Dwight was elected Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts alongside Francis W. Sargent . He held this office between 1970 and 1975. He was Deputy Governor . Neither of them were re-elected in 1974. After serving as Lieutenant Governor, Dwight moved to Minneapolis , where he edited two newspapers until 1982. In the meantime, he came under suspicion of being involved in bribery affairs while in Massachusetts. An investigation revealed his innocence in this matter. He was president of a healthcare company in 1984 and 1985. He then continued his career in the newspaper business and became president of seven newspapers in the New England states . In 1988 he founded the public relations company Clark, Dwight & Associates . The company is based in Greenwich ( Connecticut ).

Donald Dwight has five children with his wife, Susan.
