William H. Haile

William Henry Haile (born September 23, 1833 in Chesterfield , Cheshire County , New Hampshire , †  February 13, 1901 in Springfield , Massachusetts ) was an American politician . Between 1890 and 1893 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Massachusetts.

Career

William H. Haile was the son of William Haile (1807–1876), who served as Governor of New Hampshire between 1857 and 1859 . Until at least 1871 he lived in New Hampshire, where he worked in the trade. He later became president of the Haile and Frost Manufacturing Company . Politically, he joined the Republican Party . He was elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives in 1865 and 1871 . He later moved to Springfield, Massachusetts, where he became mayor in 1881. He was a member of the Massachusetts Senate in 1882 and 1883 .

In 1889, Haile was elected Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts alongside John Brackett . He held this office between 1890 and 1893 as deputy governor. From 1893 he served under the new Governor William Russell . In 1892 he ran unsuccessfully for governor. He died on February 13, 1901 after a long illness of kidney failure in Springfield.
