Robert F. Murphy

Robert F. Murphy (born January 24, 1899 in Somerville , Massachusetts , †  January 9, 1976 in Malden , Massachusetts) was an American politician . Between 1957 and 1961 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Massachusetts.

Career

Nothing is known about Robert Murphy's youth and schooling. He later worked as a journalist . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1944, 1952 and 1960 he took part as a delegate at the respective Democratic National Conventions . In 1940 he had already been a substitute delegate to the then federal party conference of the Democrats. Between 1943 and 1955 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Massachusetts , where he temporarily headed the Democratic Group. In 1954 he ran unsuccessfully for governor .

In 1956, Murphy was elected lieutenant governor of Massachusetts alongside Foster Furcolo . He held this office between 1957 and 1961. He was Deputy Governor . After serving as Lieutenant Governor, he served as the Metropolitan District Commissioner for the state government until 1964 . He died on January 9, 1976 in Malden.
