Elisha Huntington
Elisha Huntington (born April 9, 1795 in Topsfield , Essex County , Massachusetts , † December 13, 1865 in Lowell , Massachusetts) was an American politician . In 1853 and 1854 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Massachusetts.
Life
Elisha Huntington attended Dartmouth College until 1815 . After a subsequent medical degree at Yale College and his 1823 admission as a doctor, he began to work in Lowell in this profession. Politically, he joined the Whig Party in the 1830s . In the years 1838 and 1839 he was chairman of the Lowell City Council and between 1839 and 1859 six times mayor of that city. In the meantime he also served as President of the Massachusetts Medical Society .
In 1853 Huntington was elected lieutenant governor of Massachusetts alongside John H. Clifford . He held this office between 1853 and 1854. He was Deputy Governor . He died in Lowell on December 13, 1865.
