William C. Plunkett

William Caudwell Plunkett (born October 23, 1799 in Lenox , Berkshire County , Massachusetts , †  January 19, 1884 in Adams , Massachusetts) was an American politician . In 1854 and 1855 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Massachusetts.

Career

William Plunkett was the son of Patrick and Mary (Robinson) Plunkett. He grew up in Lenox and then lived in the city of Adams for over 50 years. In 1830 he acquired the Adams South Village Cotton & Woolen Manufacturing Co. , which he continued under the name of W. C. Plunkett & Sons . In Adams he became one of the leading industrial entrepreneurs who also held various local offices. Politically, he joined the Whig Party . In 1840 he was elected to the Massachusetts Senate: in 1852 he was a member of the governor's staff . In 1853 he took part as a delegate at a constitutional convention of his state.

In 1854, Plunkett was elected lieutenant governor of Massachusetts alongside Emory Washburn . He held this office between 1854 and 1855. He was Deputy Governor. He died in Adams on January 19, 1884.
