Francis X. Bellotti

Francis Xavier Bellotti (born May 3, 1923 ) is a former American politician . Between 1963 and 1965 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Massachusetts .

Career

Nothing is known about Francis Bellotti's youth and schooling. During World War II he served in the United States Navy . He then studied until 1947 at Tufts University . After studying law at Boston College , he was admitted to the bar in 1952. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In 1964 and 1980 he took part as a delegate at the respective Democratic National Conventions . In 1958 he ran unsuccessfully for the post of district attorney in Norfolk County .

In 1962 Bellotti was elected lieutenant governor of Massachusetts alongside Endicott Peabody . He held this office between 1963 and 1965. He was Deputy Governor . In 1964 he unsuccessfully applied for the office of governor. From 1975 to 1987 he served as the Massachusetts Attorney General . In the meantime he was chairman of the Federal Association of Attorney Generals. In 1970 and 1990 Bellotti sought unsuccessfully to nominate his party for the gubernatorial elections. Since 1991 he has practiced as a lawyer with the law firm Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky, and Popeo .
