Charles F. Sullivan

Charles F. "Jeff" Sullivan (born October 10, 1904 in Worcester , Massachusetts , †  August 24, 1962 ) was an American politician . Between 1949 and 1953 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Massachusetts.

Career

Before becoming a politician, Charles Sullivan ran a restaurant. Then he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1937 and 1940 he was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives ; from 1941 to 1946 he was a member of the State Senate . In 1943 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of Mayor of Worcester, which he later held between 1946 and 1949. In July 1948 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia , on which President Harry S. Truman was nominated for re-election.

That same year, Sullivan was elected lieutenant governor of Massachusetts alongside Paul A. Dever . He held this office between 1949 and 1953. He was Deputy Governor . In 1952 he was no longer confirmed in this office. After serving as Lieutenant Governor, Sullivan ran a liquor store. He died on August 24, 1962.
