Henry W. Cushman

Henry Wyles Cushman (born August 9, 1805 in Bernardston , Franklin County , Massachusetts , †  November 21, 1863 there ) was an American politician . Between 1851 and 1853 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Massachusetts.

Career

Henry Cushman attended his home public schools and Norwich University and a military school in Vermont . He then worked for some time as a teacher and in the hotel industry and as a farmer. He became President of the Franklin Agricultural Society and, in 1847, of the Franklin County Bank in Greenfield . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party . In his hometown he worked as a chamberlain for 19 years. He also sat on the local school committee for 15 years. Between 1837 and 1844 he was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives on several occasions . In 1844 he was elected to the State Senate. In 1847 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of vice governor.

In 1851, however, Cushman was elected lieutenant governor of Massachusetts alongside George S. Boutwell . He held this office between 1851 and 1853. He was Deputy Governor . After the end of his tenure as Lieutenant Governor, he continued his previous activities. He was a member of several organizations and associations. Henry Cushman died on November 21, 1863 in his hometown of Bernardston.
