Edwin Allen

Edwin Robinson Allen (born November 26, 1840 in Windham , Connecticut , †  May 4, 1931 in Hopkinton , Rhode Island ) was an American politician . Between 1894 and 1897 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Rhode Island.

Career

Nothing is known about Edwin Allen's youth and schooling. Later he was a trader in Hopkinton . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In Hopkinton he held the office of town clerk in 1867 . He was a member of the veterans organization Grand Army of the Republic . This suggests that he served in the Union's army during the civil war .

In 1894, Allen was elected lieutenant governor of Rhode Island alongside Charles W. Lippitt . He held this office between 1894 and 1897. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was no longer politically active. He died on May 4, 1931 and was buried in Hopkinton.
