Klaus Kieser

Klaus Peter Kieser (born September 25, 1961 in Wiesbaden ) is a German dance journalist, publisher and cultural manager .

Live and act

Klaus Kieser studied theater studies , musicology and modern history at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich from 1981 to 1986 . In his master's thesis, he carried out a structural analysis of the second act of the ballet Swan Lake . In 1986/87 he completed the postgraduate course in Dance Studies at the University of Surrey , which he completed with the Postgraduate Diploma. In 1990 he received his doctorate from the University of Bayreuth with a dissertation on the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich during National Socialism .

From 1987 to 1991 he was a research assistant at the Research Institute for Music Theater at the University of Bayreuth. After that he worked as a freelance mainly as a lecturer and dramaturge . For example, he worked for August Everding on his book When the Last Curtain Falls for Romeo (1993), was the dramaturge at the Bayreuth Youth Festival (1994/95) and edited numerous travel guides.

In 1999 he founded K. Kieser Verlag to publish the magazine tanzdrama (published by the Mary Wigman Society). At the beginning of 2003, tanzdrama merged with the magazine Ballett-Journal / Das Tanzarchiv and was called tanzjournal from then on . Tanzjournal was published by Friedrich Berlin Verlag between 2007 and 2009 and was edited by Kieser and Michael Merschmeier . Then tanzjournal merged with the magazine ballet-tanz to form the magazine tanz (Friedrich Berlin Verlag); Kieser was one of the two senior editors from 2010 to 2012.

In addition, Kieser has been publishing books in the field of dance in his publishing house since 2001; the most successful title is Norbert Servos' monograph Pina Bausch. Dance theater about the work and aesthetics of the dancer and choreographer Pina Bausch (first edition 2003, third edition 2012).

Since September 2014, Kieser has been the ballet's manager and dramaturge at the Saarland State Theater and therefore an employee of the ballet director and choreographer Stijn Celis .

Kieser is also the co-author of two standard works on ballet that have been published by Reclam-Verlag. In addition, he has published reviews and essays mainly in the dance magazines mentioned as well as program articles.

In November 2018 Kieser was elected to the board of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland.
