Klaus Kinner

Klaus Christian Kinner (born September 1, 1946 in Pötzschau ) is a German historian.

Kinner studied history from 1965 to 1969 at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . In 1969 he became a research student there and in January 1973 he submitted his doctorate A “On the development of the Marxist-Leninist image of history in the KPD during the Weimar Republic” with Werner Berthold . From 1973 to 1975 he was the full-time secretary of the FDJ district leadership at KMU Leipzig and at the same time worked as a research assistant in the history section of the research group “History of Marxist-Leninist History in Germany (1918 / 19-1946 / 46)”. From 1975 he had a scheduled academic traineeship at the chair for the history of the German labor movement at the Academy for Social Sciences at the Central Committee of the SED in Berlin. In December 1977 he received his PhD B “On the history of Marxist-Leninist historiography in Germany 1917–1933”.

Kinner was then senior assistant at the KMU Leipzig and from September 1978 university assistant for scientific communism at the Franz-Mehring-Institut of the KMU Leipzig until he was appointed full professor for the history of the German labor movement in September 1981. In 1986 he was deputy director and from 1987 to 1989 head of the history department at the Franz-Mehring-Institut.

In 1979, Kinner served as party secretary of the SED basic organization and from 1984 as chairman of the district leadership of the Kulturbund at KMU Leipzig. In 1988/89 he was a member of the SED district leadership at KMU Leipzig and in 1989/90 he was a member of the Presidium of the Historians' Society of the GDR .

After his dismissal in 1990, Kinner's professorship was wound up in 1992. Kinner, who worked on the editing of the Marx-Engels-Gesamtausgabe (MEGA) from 1990 to 1992 , has since worked as a freelance historian in teaching and research as well as as a publicist. In 1997 he became a member of the Leibniz Society . V. Berlin and 1998 managing director of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung Sachsen e. V. in Leipzig . Since 2002 he has been a member of the spokesman's council of the Historical Commission of the PDS / Die Linke party executive . In 2004 he was Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation.
