Klaus Lange (lawyer)

Klaus Lange (born August 6, 1939 in Dessau ; † August 4, 2020 in Gießen ) was a German law scholar and university professor .

Life

After graduating from the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Hanover, Lange studied law , economics and sociology at the Universities of Marburg , Paris, Munich and Göttingen . In 1963 he passed the first state law examination and in 1965 the examination as a qualified economist. In 1967 he received his doctorate with Werner Weber's dissertation “The Organization of the Region” at the Law Faculty of the University of Göttingen. In 1969 the major state examination followed, and in 1972 with the habilitation thesis on business administration law "Transport and Public Law", the habilitation at the Göttingen Law Faculty for the field of public law .

After working as a scientific adviser and professor at the Ruhr University in Bochum , Lange took over the professorship for public law (later: public law and administrative teaching) in the law department of the Justus Liebig University in Gießen in 1978 . From 1989 to 1991 he was vice president of this university. From 1990 to 2015 he organized, most recently together with Franz Reimer , the "Gießener Environmental Law Practitioners Seminar". In 2007 he retired.

Lange's main research interests included general administrative law , environmental law and local law . His textbook on local law was published in 2013. For a long time he was co-editor of the Gießener Abhandlungen on Environmental Law, which he set up in 1997 and, since 2007, of the LKRZ - Journal for State and Municipal Law Hesse / Rhineland-Palatinate / Saarland . Since 1981 he has been a liaison professor at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation .

From 1984 to 2014 Lange was a member of the State Court of Hesse , from 1996 to 2003 and 2008 to 2009 he was its President.

Lange was married and had a daughter and a son.
