Klaus Lennartz

Klaus Lennartz (* 3. March 1944 in Hurth-Efferen ; † 5. November 2019 in Huerth ) was a German politician of the SPD . From 1980 to 2002 he was a directly elected member of the German Bundestag for what is now the Rhein-Erft district .

education and profession

After his commercial training in 1961 and a further examination for the senior service in the miners' union , he worked in a leading position at statutory health insurance companies until his election to the Bundestag. After leaving the Bundestag, Lennartz worked as head of the board of directors of the Deutsche Leasinggesellschaft and carried out lobbying work for commercial enterprises throughout Germany.

Political career

Lennartz occurred in 1963 in the SPD, in 1974 he was appointed to the council of Hurth selected. In 1976 he became a member of the district council of the Rhein-Erft-Kreis, Bergheim (formerly Erftkreis). In 1980 the election to the German Bundestag followed, which was confirmed in 1983, 1987, 1990, 1994 and 1998. From 1975 to 2001 Lennartz was chairman of the SPD sub-district Erftkreis (later SPD-UB Rhein-Erft-Kreis), since 2001 he was honorary chairman of the Rhein-Erft-SPD. From 1984 to 1995 he was honorary district administrator of the Erftkreis, in 1999 he ran for the SPD as full-time district administrator of the Erftkreis.

Klaus Lennartz was a member of the council of the city of Hürth and the district council in the Rhein-Erft district.

In 1980 the SPD set him up in the Rhein-Erft district as the successor to the Bundestag member Rudi Adams . Since then, he has always been directly elected to the constituency Erftkreis I. In 2001, he declared that he no longer wanted to stand for election in the 2002 federal elections. Gabriele Frechen took over his constituency .

Controversial election campaign

In July 2009 Lennartz drew attention to himself through a self-initiated election campaign. In this campaign, he used slogans such as “Get off the streets, you scoundrels” or “Puff instead of drinking” for votes. After a conversation with the chairman of the SPD in the Rhein-Erft district , Guido van den Berg , Lennartz removed the slogans from his website.

Personal

Klaus Lennartz was married and had two daughters. Lennartz kept himself fit by jogging. In November 2009, when he was 65, he completed the New York City Marathon in just under six hours with one of his daughters .
