Klaus Pavel (District Administrator)

Klaus Pavel (born  June 6, 1953 in Göppingen ) is a German politician ( CDU ). Since 1996 he has been the district administrator of the Ostalb district .

Career

Pavel completed his studies for the higher non-technical administration service at the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in Stuttgart with the degree of Diplom-Verwaltungswirt (FH) .

From 1984 to 1996 he was mayor of the municipality of Boll in the district of Göppingen .

When the previous district administrator of the neighboring Ostalb district , Diethelm Winter , did not stand for re-election in 1996, Klaus Pavel applied for his office. In the district council of the Ostalbkreis his party, the CDU, lacked a seat for an absolute majority; In the election by the district council on June 18, 1996, Pavel and his opponent Karl Bux, Ellwangen's independent mayor, had 40 votes in each of the three ballots . Due to the three-time stalemate, a drawing of lots was due, in which the lot fell on Pavel.

Klaus Pavel was re-elected in his office as district administrator in June 2004; this time he was the only applicant to receive 88 percent approval. In June 2012, he ran again for election to the district council and was re-elected for a further eight years with 97.3% of the votes (71 yes votes, 2 invalid votes), again with no opposing candidates.

For reasons of age, Pavel did not stand for re-election in 2020. On June 30, 2020, the district council of the Ostalb district elected Joachim Bläse, First Mayor of Schwäbisch Gmünd , as his successor, who is to take up the office in September 2020.

Pavel is also chairman of the administrative board of Kreissparkasse Ostalb , deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Kreisbau Ostalb eG and deputy chairman of the supervisory board of the energy supply company EnBW ODR AG .

On July 8, 2020, Pavel was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .
