Klaus Peter Pavel (* 26. June 1938 in Berlin ) is a German entrepreneur and equestrian - functionary .

The son of the Berlin entrepreneur Herbert Pavel (1905–1986) and his wife Waldtraut Wessig (* 1914) grew up with his brother Andreas Pavel , who later invented the Walkman , in Brazil from the age of 12 , where his father started the Family company Matarazzo Industries in São Paulo should restructure. In 1955, Klaus Pavel returned to Germany with his now divorced father, who, together with his brother Horst Pavel (1908–1988), who had previously worked as a lawyer and functionary in the Quandt family's companies, is now also the Rheinische Nadelfabriken GmbH in Aachen took over.

After finishing school, Klaus Pavel studied production engineering at RWTH Aachen University and completed this course with an examination for a Dipl.-Ing. from. On October 20, 1970, he joined his father's family business and from 1974 took over the entire Rhein-Nadel Group as managing partner. Due to the decline of the traditional Aachen needle industry, Pavel completed the structural change in the following years, which his father had already initiated with the conversion of the company to Rhein-Nadel Maschinenbau, and the company specialized in the field of feeding technology , in which the company added the market leaders in the industry. Several subsidiaries and branches in Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain and Spain followed. During this time Pavel was able to register numerous patents with the patent office . In 2003 he sold the last remaining needle production division in the company and from then on concentrated exclusively on automation and opened up new markets in East Asia and Eastern Europe.

At the turn of the year 2013/2014, Klaus Pavel transferred the post of managing partner to his son Christopher.

In addition to his business obligations, Pavel was and is active in various societal, social and cultural areas. His commitment to the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein , which he headed as president from 1993 to 2010 , stands out above all . During this time, he significantly shaped the expansion of the riding and dressage facilities as well as the associated infrastructure, increased the budget and the number of spectators for the annual CHIO Aachen by three times, and thus made the riding tournament an important economic and advertising factor for the city of Aachen. The highlight of his activity was hosting the fifth World Equestrian Games in 2006 in seven disciplines.

He devotes further great commitment to the country of Brazil, with which he has been in touch since his youth. His father Herbert was already admitted to Aachen as Honorary Consul of the Federative Republic of Brazil after his return from Brazil . After his death, Klaus Pavel took over this honorary position, which he continues to exercise. In 1992, together with his wife Gudrun (* 1939), a native of Vienna with Polish roots, he founded the “Fundação Pavel”, which is a development organization in the Brazilian state of Maranhão that offers help to the poorest of the poor. The aim of this facility is to get children and young people off the streets early with numerous activities and to offer them a regular daily routine. For their social commitment in Brazil, the Pavel couple received the blessing and the support of Pope Francis and Gudrun Pavel in May 2017, the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class.

In his limited free time, the trained engineer continues to tinker with future-oriented machines and most recently developed a 10-pound electric scooter that can be folded up and stored in the trunk. He has also duly applied for a patent for this and is to be marketed in cooperation with RWTH Aachen University.

Honors

  • In recognition of his achievements in organizing the 2006 World Championships, Pavel was awarded the German Equestrian Cross in Gold by the German Equestrian Association in November 2006 .
  • For his achievements as a local entrepreneur and for his work in the ALRV and for the CHIO, Klaus Pavel was awarded the Golden Ring of Honor of the City of Aachen in 2006.
  • After resigning as president of the ALRV, he was made honorary president of the association in 2010.
  • In 2011 he received the municipal CHIO award in the form of a horse sculpture, which has been awarded since 1995 to people or organizations who have made significant contributions to the Aachen horse show.
