Klaus Schmotz (born April 4, 1952 in Zechau / Thuringia ) is a German local politician ( CDU ). Since 2001 he has been Lord Mayor of the Hanseatic City of Stendal in the third electoral term .

Life

From 1970 to 1974 Klaus Schmotz studied at the Humboldt University in Berlin with a degree in economics. From 1974 to 1990 he served with the border troops of the German Democratic Republic , most recently as a staff officer for financial economics with the rank of lieutenant colonel . From 1990 to 1999 the financial expert worked as a treasurer in the Stendal district and from 1990 to 1994 at the same time as head of the office for unresolved property issues. He then moved to the Hanseatic city of Stendal, as finance department and treasurer. In 2001 Klaus Schmotz ran for the office of Lord Mayor and was elected with 74.9% of the vote. In 2008 and 2015 he was confirmed in office in the mayoral elections. He is u. a. Chairman of the supervisory board of the largest municipal companies ( Stendaler Housing Association , Stadtwerke Stendal), member of the board of trustees of the Winckelmann Society and chairman of the board of trustees of the Jütting Foundation Stendal.
