Klaus Schwanke (born September 4, 1938 ) is a former German soccer player. In the 1950s and 1960s he played for SC Rotation Leipzig and SC Turbine Erfurt in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . Schwanke is a multiple junior national player.

Athletic career

As a junior player in the SC Rotation Leipzig, Klaus Schwanke was part of the GDR junior national team from 1956 to 1957. With her he played six international matches, including two at the 1957 UEFA youth tournament in Spain. In his internationals Schwanke was always used as a left defender.

In 1957 Schwanke also made his debut in the league team of SC Rotation Leipzig. He first played the first three point games of the season, in which he was also called up as a left defender. Then he was only used again in the second half of the season, but then regularly and as a winger, right and left. On the 17th matchday he shot his first league goal. Schwanke could not confirm the 1957 trend in 1958, because it was only used sporadically in seven league games during this season. He was therefore given for the 1959 season to BSG Stahl Hettstedt , which played in the fifth class district class. In 1960 he moved to the league relegated SC Turbine Erfurt in the GDR league , where he was involved in the promotion with 14 stakes (out of 26) and three goals.

In 1961, GDR football was changed from the calendar year to the summer-spring rhythm. This required 39 point games from March 1961 to June 1962 in the league. The SC Turbine also kept Schwanke for the league, which developed there for two seasons to a regular player. While he missed nine point games in 1961/62 (3 goals), he was only missing twice in 1962/63. After he was used as a left winger in his first Erfurt league season, he then played as a right defender. At the beginning of the 1963/64 season Schwanke completed the first four league games, but injured himself so badly on the fourth match day that he had to sit out six months. In the second half of the season he was used three times in the league, after which he had to end his league career at the age of 25. In his five league seasons he had made a total of 82 appearances, 20 for SC Rotation Leipzig (1 goal) and 61 for SC Turbine Erfurt (3 goals).

Between 1966 and 1970 Schwanke played for the GDR league club Motor Eisenach . Of the 120 point games played in the GDR league during this time, he played 105 games and scored one goal.
