Klaus Uebe (born May 1, 1900 in Kammin , † February 5, 1968 in Bad Godesberg ) was a German major general in the Air Force in World War II .

Life

On June 21, 1918, shortly before the end of the First World War , he joined the imperial army , from which he was released on November 23, 1918.

Five years later, he went to the Reichswehr and served in the infantry, where on November 15, 1924, he started an officer trainee course at the infantry school in Ohrdruf . Upon successful completion, he was on December 1, 1926 Lieutenant and on November 1, 1929 Lieutenant promoted. From June 2, 1931, he took part in an aviation and observer course at the German Aviation School (DVS) and then switched to the unofficial air force on October 1, 1933.

As a first lieutenant, he was an adjutant at the DVS Observer School in Braunschweig. After serving briefly in the 1st Flieger Division on May 1, 1934, he changed to the Fassberg Fliegergruppe as an adjutant on July 1, 1934, now as captain . This was followed by a course at the Air War School 2 in Berlin-Gatow on June 3, 1935 , before he began training as a general staff officer on November 1, 1935 . On February 1, 1939, he switched back to the General Staff of the Air Force, and then to join Kampfgeschwader 2 on August 1, 1940 . This squadron, with its twin-engined Dornier Do 17 bombers, was in northern France at the time and was preparing for the Battle of Britain . On September 1, 1940, he took over the III. Group as group commander . On April 1, 1941, in preparation for the impending attack on the Soviet Union, he became an air liaison officer of Air Fleet 2 for Army Group Center. There he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on August 1, 1941, combined with the assumption of the post of first general staff officer (Ia) in the command department of Air Fleet 2. On October 25, 1942, he again took over the post of Chief of Staff with the Don Air Force Command in the south of the Eastern Front. At the end of the year he was temporarily in command of the 4th Flieger Division before he took over the post of Commanding General and Commander of the Air Force Command East Prussia on January 24, 1945 . On May 1, 1945 he moved to the Luftflotte Reich where he was taken prisoner of war on May 8, 1945 from which he was released on June 5, 1947.
