Klaus-Werner Jonas

Klaus-Werner Jonas (born February 16, 1954 in Peine , Lower Saxony ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

education and profession

After secondary school , Jonas completed an apprenticeship as an administrative specialist in Hanover . From 1977 to 1981 he worked as an employee at the employment office in Giessen . 1981–1988 Klaus-Werner Jonas worked for the regional council in the city of Giessen. Between 1988 and 1990 he was the office manager of the Weinbach community in Hesse .

politics

In 1988 Jonas joined the SPD. From 1990 he was mayor of the East Thuringian city of Berga in the district of Greiz . From September 2002 until the new election in 2005 , Jonas was a directly elected member of the Bundestag . There he represented the constituency of Greiz - Altenburger Land . In 2002 he did not run for mayoral elections because of his mandate in the Bundestag. As mayor, he was accused of having charged excessive business travel costs and of having overindebted Berga through excessive loans. Because of the investigation by the Gera public prosecutor's office in this context, Jonas' immunity as a member of the Bundestag was temporarily lifted at the beginning of July 2004 . The proceedings were discontinued shortly afterwards.

From 1994 to 2007 he was a member of the district council of the district of Greiz. After being expelled from the SPD parliamentary group, he was a non-attached member of the Greiz district assembly. He was also a member of the Berga / Elser city council from 2004 to 2008.

As a member of the SPD parliamentary group in the Bundestag , Jonas became a full member of the Committee for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Petitions Committee in 2002. He was a deputy member of the United Nations subcommittee of the German Bundestag. Jonas also belonged to the Parliamentary Assembly in the Council of Europe and was a member of the Assembly of the WEU - Interparliamentary European Assembly for Security and Defense.

According to a report by the Marxist-Leninist Party of Germany (MLPD), Jonas was a member of the MLPD in the 1980s. In a report it was claimed that Jonas took part in the founding party congress of the MLPD and was expelled from the MLPD in 1988 as an informant for the protection of the constitution. The MLPD spread these claims in his living and working environment in Giessen.
