Location of the community of Weinbach in the Limburg-Weilburg district | ||
Weinbach is a municipality in the Limburg-Weilburg district in Central Hesse .
Geographical location
Weinbach is located on the Lahn and the Weil between Wetzlar and Limburg an der Lahn .
Neighboring communities
Weinbach borders the city of Weilburg in the north, the municipality of Weilmünster in the east and south , and the municipality of Villmar and the city of Runkel (all in the Limburg-Weilburg district) in the west .
structure
Weinbach consists of the core town Weinbach and the districts Blessenbach , Edelsberg , Elkerhausen , Freienfels , Fürfurt and Gräveneck .
history
Fürfurt was mentioned as the first district in a document that was drawn up between 1148 and 1154. The first mention of Elkerhausen dates back to 1191. The knight dynasty resident there was involved in a serious feud with the sovereign, the Archbishop of Trier , in the 14th century . Elkerhausen Castle was handed over to him in 1352 and, after the knights had sworn the original feud, it was razed (i.e. the moat was filled in and the castle wall torn down to a certain height. The castle became a "permanent house"). Around 1500 the gable-free half-timbered building that still exists today was built alongside the existing transverse structure and the former castle was converted into a moated castle with towers and polygonal bering.
Edelsberg was first mentioned in 1246, Blessenbach in 1267 and Weinbach in 1344. The castle Freienfels was around 1300, probably by the Diezer sidelines Weilnau built. It was first mentioned in documents in 1327. The castle Gräveneck was in 1395 by a knight alliance under the leadership of the House of Nassau built up in their castle New Elkerhausen sitting opposite of Gräveneck Knights of Elkerhausen.
Territorial reform
The history of the large community of Weinbach begins on December 1, 1970, when the previously independent communities of Weinbach, Blessenbach, Freienfels and Gräveneck joined together voluntarily as part of the regional reform in Hesse . On July 1, 1974, the municipalities Edelsberg and Elkerhausen were provincial law incorporated .
