Blessenbach is a district of the municipality of Weinbach in the Limburg-Weilburg district in Central Hesse .

Geographical location

Blessenbach is located in the eastern Hintertaunus in the Taunus Nature Park .
Neighboring towns are Elkerhausen (northwest), Laubuseschbach (southeast) and the hamlet of Klein-Weinbach (south).

history

Blessenbach was first mentioned in a document in 1267 and was under the rule of the Counts of Diez , whose inheritance came from the Lords of Runkel . The place belongs to the lordship of the monastery St. Maximin zu Trier with its center in Laubuseschbach. Remarkably, Laubuseschbach was a branch of the Blessenbach church. The Kleinweinbach, already mentioned as Minore Wynbach in 1325, belongs to Blessenbach. As bailiffs of the monastery, the lords of Molsberg owned the manor and enfeoffed Hiltwin von Elkerhausen in 1332 with the church set, court, courtyards, large and small tithe and the Laubus forest. After the decline of the Molsbergers, the Hiltwin heirs took over these possessions and rights as an Electorate of Trier fiefdom . By 1517 at the latest, the gentlemen of Schönborn became the sole owners. At the end of the 17th century, they sold their rights to the Danish von Friesensee family, who in turn ceded them to the Count von Wied-Runkel in 1709.

As early as 1495, a mine that was initially in runic possession was in operation here. As early as 1502 there was slate mining in Blessenbach , which developed into an important source of income, especially in the 19th century. At the beginning of the 18th century, a small slate cottage settlement was established. A silver melt that fell into disrepair around 1780 experienced a certain boom in the middle of the 18th century in connection with the brief flourishing of the Weilburg mint. The Hörderhof, which belongs to Blessenbach and was first mentioned in 1334, was leased by the Count Wied-Runkel at the beginning of the 19th century to the Mennonite families Nafziger and Schwarztraub, who stayed on the farm until 1840. In 1806 Blessenbach came to the Duchy of Nassau and after its dissolution in 1867 to the Prussian Oberlahnkreis .

Territorial reform

The municipality of Blessenbach in the former Oberlahnkreis merged voluntarily as part of the regional reform in Hesse on December 1, 1970 with the independent municipalities of Weinbach , Freienfels and Gräveneck to form the new municipality of Weinbach. Weinbach was designated as the seat of the municipal administration.
