The castle was built in 1395 as a siege castle by a knight league under the leadership of Count Philipp von Nassau-Saarbrücken against the knights of Elkerhausen. 1396 he won with his ally Count Dieter von Katzenellenbogen the castle New Elkerhausen and let her grind .
Only small remains of Gräveneck Castle have survived, some wall sections, a vaulted cellar and a filled neck ditch . In the 18th century, the remaining structure was used to build a courtyard house for the Brendel von Homburg estate .
