Villmar Castle

The castle Villmar is an Outbound hilltop castle on a high edge at 140  meters above sea level. NHN above the Lahn valley in the area of the old cemetery in the west of the municipality of Villmar in the Limburg-Weilburg district in Hesse .

The castle was probably built by the Lords of Isenburg around 1250 , as indicated by the mention of Isenburg castle people in 1251. In 1348 the castle and the city of Villmar were the target of an advance by the Archbishopric of Trier under the Trier Metropolitan Baldwin of Luxembourg . In 1362 the castle became an imperial fiefdom of the Archbishopric of Trier. In the first half of the 18th century, the Vogteiburg appears on a map as a three-story residential tower . After the fortifications were demolished at the beginning of the 19th century, only the basement floors remain.

During excavations in the area of the Burgplatz in 1840, the foundation of a presumably older tower was found.
