history

The castle was built in the 13th century by the noble von Holzhausen family, whose family was first mentioned by name in 1300 with Johannes. The family was called Schütz von Holzhausen from 1391 and was previously a Burgmann family at Merenberg Castle , where they called themselves Schütz von Merenberg . Members of the widely ramified family can be identified as officials in Driedorf , Runkel , Merenberg and other smaller farms.

When the castle was abandoned or destroyed is not known, it was already dilapidated towards the end of the 16th century: In 1599 it was documented as lying in ruins, in 1843 foundation walls are said to have been left.
