Brendel von Homburg
The Brendel von Homburg (older, rarer form: Brendel von Hoenburg ) were a knightly noble family in today's Hesse , based in the region of today's Bad Homburg vor der Höhe .
history
The family was first mentioned in 1160 with the death of Margaretha Brendel von Homburg, who was married to Johann von Rüdigheim . Johann Brendel von Homburg can be identified as the first male representative in 1359 and 1360 , even if several documents previously refer to the family. The Brendel von Homburg split in the middle of the 15th century under his grandsons Jörg and Friedrich Brendel von Homburg into two lines, of which the Jörgs line died out in 1577 with the Friedberg burgrave Johann Oyger Brendel von Homburg .
Friedrich's line brought forth the Archbishop of Mainz, Daniel Brendel von Homburg . It went out in 1630.
possession
The Brendel von Homburg were especially wealthy around Bad Homburg vor der Höhe and held the castle fief of Homburg for a long time as an Eppstein fief. In the Reichsburg Friedberg they provided several Burgmanns and two Burggraves, in the northwest corner of the large castle complex they had their own Burgmannenhaus. Another possession can be proven:
- Brendelburg
- Partner in the Lindheim estate
- Old Büdesheim Palace (since 1554)
- Goods and farms in Oberstedten , Homburg, Gonzenheim , Seulberg and Nieder-Eschbach . The Brendelstrasse in Bad Homburg, Frankfurt-Hausen and Friedrichsdorf also point to the possession of Brendel von Homburg .
