Johann Brendel von Homburg († November 9, 1569 ) was burgrave of Friedberg at Friedberg Castle in Friedberg (Hesse) from 1532 to 1569 .
His father was Georg Brendel von Homburg , his mother a born von Ebersberg-Weyers . In 1527 Johann Brendel von Homburg married Maria-Appolonia vom Stein-Nassau († 15 September 1537), daughter of Dieter (Dietrich) vom Stein-Nassau († 13 June 1534), governor of Engers , Molsberg , Montabaur , Limburg an der Lahn , Boppard and Niederbruch and Magdalena von Reifenberg (* 1478; † February 19, 1531). Johann Brendel von Homburg and Maria-Appolonia von Stein-Nassau had a daughter, Magdalena Margaretha Brendel von Homburg .
In his name, coins were minted and issued for the castle team. A Brendel thaler from 1568 can be seen in the municipal coin cabinet of the Gothic House of Bad Homburg. Johann Brendel von Homburg introduced the Reformation in the Burggrafschaft Friedberg . With the support of Philipp Melanchthon , he founded Friedberg's first Latin school in 1543, today's Augustinian School . His gravestone has been preserved and is exhibited in the Wetterau Museum .
