Old Büdesheim Castle
The Old Palace (also known as Bruderhof or Brendelstein ) in Büdesheim , a district of the municipality of Schöneck in the Main-Kinzig district in Hesse , is a Renaissance palace that dates back to an older Benedictine estate .
history
Another early moated castle in Büdesheim was located on the Nidder between the Windecken and Niederdorfelden castles . The builders are unknown. The complex was donated to the Michelsberg monastery in Bamberg around 1017 and was probably converted into a fortified courtyard by the Benedictines.
The farm belonged together with Büdesheim to the Freigericht Kaichen , which came under the sovereignty of the Burggrafschaft Friedberg in the 15th century . In 1554 the monastery sold the facility, now called the Bruderhof , to the Friedberg burgrave Johann Brendel von Homburg . He had today's castle built around 1558 with the inclusion of some older components. This is why the name Brendelstein is occasionally found after the burgrave's family ( Brendel von Homburg ). In 1569 the castle came into the possession of the Schütz von Holzhausen family . Modifications took place in 1680, in 1760 it came to the Hanau-Münzenberg Chamber President Philipp Reinhard Freiherr von Edelsheim . In 1885 the New Palace was built south of the complex . After several changes of ownership, it now belongs to the community of Schöneck, which, after major renovations, uses it primarily for cultural purposes.
In February 2016, after a long discussion, the local council decided to sell the old castle to an investor. Even in the run-up to this decision, there was resistance from the population. A citizens' initiative and an association to save the old castle were brought into being. Due to the decision to sell, some of these citizens started a referendum on this subject.
investment
Nothing is visible of the medieval castle complex, the previously existing double trenches were later filled. Today's Old Castle is a three-wing complex with an inner courtyard open to the south. The eastern wing in particular contains an earlier core structure. A second used coat of arms stone on the east wing with the year 1558 says that the castle is named as Brendelstein and was originally called Bruderhof or Brüderhof. There is a castle chapel in the southern part of the west wing.
