Hüttelngesäß Castle

The Hüttelngesäß castle once stood in the Main-Kinzig-Kreis in Hesse Spessart , between Niedersteinbach and Geiselbach . It was located at the lower end of the Teufelsgrund in the middle Kahlgrund .

history

The ruins of the moated castle , first mentioned in writing in 1131 , now belong to the 250-year-old Hüttelngesäß forest farm . In 1403, Archbishop Johann II of Nassau granted the right to open the Hüttelngesäß Castle . From there, together with Mömbris Castle , which is often incorrectly referred to as Womburg , and Hauenstein Castle , the area of the upper Kahl and Lohr , which was under Rieneck's influence, was secured. Two years later, on February 22nd, 1405, the castle burned down in the Wetterau robber war .

In 1510 the County of Hanau bought the castle ruins as "a ruined wall" with the meadows and forests that belonged to them. It was not rebuilt. Parts of the outbuilding and the surrounding wall as well as remains of the residential tower have been preserved.

Since 1754 the ruin and the adjacent forest yard have been owned by the von Savigny family.
