history

All four districts were first mentioned in a document at the end of the 13th to the beginning of the 14th century. In the case of Selters, this is not entirely clear due to the similarity of names with Selters (Westerwald) and Selters (Taunus) . A document from 1317 can be clearly assigned to Selters an der Lahn; possibly the place was mentioned earlier. The Nassau Laneburg was first mentioned in 1324 . It must have been built shortly beforehand. At that time, today's capital Löhnberg was still called Heimau and received city rights under this name in 1321 , but led a miserable existence in 1344 because of its proximity to Weilburg and the pledging to the Nassau line there. Laneburg had its own church from 1342 at the latest and a pastor from 1355. During the Reformation the place became evangelical. At the end of the 16th century the Laneburg was expanded into a renaissance castle and was briefly the Nassau-Dillenburg residence. In 1900 the castle burned down completely.

On November 9, 1901, the Löhnberg volunteer fire brigade was founded . In this way, she and other already existing volunteer fire brigades formed the Oberlahn extinguishing district in the fire brigade association for the Wiesbaden administrative region , within which she entered the district assembly in Obertiefenbach with 63 members on September 3, 1906 . The Catholics of Löhnberg have been making a pilgrimage to the pilgrimage chapel Maria Hilf Beselich for many decades and express their faith there.

The district Obershausen was first mentioned in 1307 and Niedershausen in 1296.

Large community of Löhnberg

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , on December 31, 1970, the previously independent communities of the former Oberlahnkreis Löhnberg, Niedershausen and Obershausen merged voluntarily to form the new large community of Löhnberg. Selters was added by state law on July 1, 1974.
