Frank Schmidt (born March 10, 1966 in Limburg an der Lahn ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After graduating from the Tilemannschule in Limburg in 1986 , Schmidt did his military service and then completed a teaching degree in history , geography and education at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , which he completed in 1992 with the first state examination . He then worked as a research assistant in the history department at Frankfurt University until 1998. In 1997 here his promotion to Dr. phil. with the work " Christian Stock (1884–1967) - a biography" . From 1998 to 2001 Schmidt worked as a consultant in the planning group for the chairman of the SPD parliamentary group until he himself became a member of the Bundestag as a successor.

After leaving the Bundestag, he was a consultant for the finance working group of the SPD parliamentary group from 2002 to 2003, until he switched to the Bundeswehr Institute of Social Sciences in 2003 as a lecturer .

Political party

Schmidt joined the SPD as a schoolboy in 1982. From 2005 to 2012 he was deputy chairman of the SPD sub-district Limburg-Weilburg . In 2005 he was also treasurer of the SPD district of Hesse- South. Schmidt no longer ran for this office in 2009.

In 2006, Schmidt stood for election as district administrator in Limburg-Weilburg, but lost to Manfred Michel with a share of 24.0% of the vote . After 1996, Frank Schmidt applied for the office of mayor of Löhnberg for the second time in 2008 . In 1996 he reached the runoff election, but then withdrew his candidacy. In 2008 he won the first ballot with 55% of the vote. He had five opponents. The change of office took place on April 29th. However, his service only began after he resigned from his Bundestag mandate on May 25, 2009. In the direct election on February 1, 2015, Schmidt was confirmed in his office with 67.8 percent with no opposing candidate.

MP

Schmidt was a member of the city council of his hometown Limburg from 1990 to 1997. Since 1989 he has been a member of the district council of the Limburg-Weilburg district and has been chairman of the SPD parliamentary group since 1994. On May 14, 2001, Schmidt replaced the deceased MP Werner Schuster in the Bundestag , but initially left the Bundestag after the 2002 Bundestag election. From 2005 until his resignation on May 25, 2009, he was again a member of the German Bundestag . Frank Schmidt has always entered the Bundestag via the Hesse state list.
