Klaus Wittmann (translator)

Klaus Wittmann (born May 24, 1937 in Krefeld ) is a German literary translator .

Life

Klaus Wittmann studied law at the universities in Saarbrücken , Heidelberg and Bonn . From 1963 to 1999 he worked for the organization Inter Nationes . Wittmann lives with his wife, the translator Mirjana Wittmann , in Bonn .

Klaus Wittmann translates literary texts from Serbian , Croatian and Bosnian in collaboration with Mirjana Wittmann . In 2006 both received the Brücke Berlin Literature and Translation Prize for their translation of David Albahari's motherland, and in 2011 the Paul Celan Prize in recognition of their life's work .
