Kleine Melodie aus Wien is an Austrian fiction film from 1948 by EW Emo with Paul Hörbiger and Maria Andergast in the leading roles.

action

There was a great housing shortage in Vienna in the early post-war period. The old music professor Griebichler, a staunch curmudgeon and apparently unteachable curmudgeon, lives in a spacious house and is anything but enthusiastic when the Viennese housing office responsible for the distribution of living space assigns him the young widow Frau Weber and her three children as new roommates. The professor, who loves peace and seclusion above all else, is anything but enthusiastic when cheers and hustle and bustle arrives with the four new roommates. After some friction at the beginning, the old man gradually learns to appreciate the presence of his new roommates and, in the course of the story, transforms into a more amiable fellow man who takes care of the needs of others. At the end of the story, the art lover even gets under the hood.

Production notes

Friedrich Erban took over the production management. Fritz Jüptner-Jonstorff designed the film structures.

Reviews

“A music teacher is quartered with a young widow with three ranks in times of housing shortage. If the film is doing decidedly better today than it was at the time of its premiere, then this is mainly due to EW Emo, the great unhappily of Australian cinema, whose sense of speed and precision is still moments of verve and charm even from the blandest book and the lukewarm actors knew to get. If the circumstances were only halfway right, as with this piece of rubble in furnished interiors, he was even able to create works of beauty and spirit. "

The lexicon of the international film decreed briefly: "Sentimental musical comedy with a little time flavor."
