The Small Taimyr Island ( Russian Малый Таймыр / Maly Taimyr ) with an area of 232 km² is part of the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago in the Arctic Ocean and belongs to Russia .
The island is located southeast of the Bolshevik Island , one of the three large main islands of Severnaya Zemlya, and with Starokadomski Island off to the west and some islets northeast of the Taimyr Peninsula at the eastern exit of Wilkizki Street . It was only discovered in 1913 by the Hydrographic Expedition of the Arctic Ocean and was called Zessarevich-Alexei Island (Russian: Остров Цесаревича Алексея) until 1926 .
