Robert F. Curl (2009)

Robert Floyd Curl, Jr. (born August 23, 1933 in Alice , Texas ) is an American chemist .

Curl was at 1957 Kenneth Sanborn Pitzer with the subject Some Spectroscopic and Thermodynamic Properties of Molecules at the University of California, Berkeley Ph.D.

Curl is a retired professor of chemistry at Rice University .

Together with Richard E. Smalley and Harold Kroto , he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1996 for the discovery of fullerenes . In 1997 he was elected to the National Academy of Sciences and in 1998 to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
