The small flea herb ( Pulicaria vulgaris ) belongs to the genus of the flea herbs ( Pulicaria ).
description
The small flea herb is an annual, 7–45 cm high, very sparsely branched plant, the branching already begins below the middle of the stem, whereby the side branches are often longer than the main branch. The leaves are broadly lanceolate, long-haired underneath, wavy, the upper ones are half-stem embracing or sessile with a rounded base. The heads have a diameter of 10 mm and stand in loose panicles. The ray-florets are dirty yellow, hardly longer than the tubular-florets and hardly protrude beyond their shell.
Flowering time is from July to September.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.
General distribution
The distribution area of the small flea herb extends from North Africa and the Canary Islands through Western, Central and Eastern Europe, north to Scandinavia, east to Central Asia, Mongolia and the Ussuri . In Germany it occurs mainly on the banks of the large rivers (Rhine, Weser, Elbe, Oder).
Locations
The flea herb needs moist, nitrogen-rich loam or clay soil. It populates swamp meadows, reed beds and wet roadsides. It is absent in sandy areas and also in areas with a somewhat harsh climate. Otherwise it is rarely found, but it is often found in stocks that are moderately rich in individuals. It hardly rises anywhere above 800 m above sea level. In the association of dwarf rush associations (Nanocyperion), in the association of Bidention tripartitae and Agropyro-Rumicion, it is often associated with Bidens tripartita , Ranunculus sceleratus and Potentilla anserina .
ingredients
The plant contains the polyene cosmen , which is related to the essential oils.
Others
The small flea herb belonging to the Inuleae tribe was also known as elephant .
