Klemens Richters (born December 15, 1950 in Legden ) is a German graduate social worker .

Career

Richters is married and has four children. From 1988 to 2017 he was the head and managing director of the St. Mauritz child and youth welfare service in Münster. Under his leadership, for the first time in Germany, all educational specialists were certified as trauma educators in a three-year training and qualification program .

Richters is a member of social policy networks, was a board member of the Federal Association of Catholic Institutions and Services of Educational Aids (BVkE) from 2004 to 2018 and headed the specialist committees “Education and Educational Aids” and “Specialists in Educational Aids”. He studied social pedagogy and social work at the Münster University of Applied Sciences from 1972 to 1976 and headed the Ludwigsheim in Münster from 1981 to 1988. In 1982 he founded the “Youth Training Center Münster” (JAZ) with inter-company workshops in which unemployed girls and boys learned various state-recognized training occupations. As an adventure pedagogue with authorization to guide sailing ships, he developed sustainable adventure education concepts and sailed the North and Baltic Seas with girls and boys from his facilities on traditional ships.

In the summer of 1988, Richters took over the management of the facility "Children's Home and Orphanage on St. Mauritz", which was founded in 1842 by the priest and order donor Eduard Michelis as the first poor orphanage in Münster. From its founding until 1988, only women religious from the community of the Sisters of Divine Providence ran the institution. Richters continued to develop the children's home with great dedication, and in 2010 it was renamed the “Child and Youth Welfare Center Sankt Mauritz” with 200 places for children, adolescents and parents, who are looked after by 180 specialists (social pedagogues, curative pedagogues and psychologists). True to the guiding principle developed under his leadership, “... that children and young people succeed in life”, his actions are geared towards realizing sustainable future prospects for every child, for every young person, for every family. With participatory concepts and the certified training of all skilled workers to become trauma pedagogues, Richters succeeded in developing the children's home into the first German child and youth welfare facility with a trauma pedagogical concept. Richters worked with the IKJ Mainz - Institute for Child and Youth Welfare - for the scientific evaluation .

In 2017 Richters retired and handed over management to his successor Michael Kaiser.

As part of his retirement, Richters was committed to unaccompanied minor foreigners and in 2018 and 2019 he led qualification courses for specialists in educational assistance in Augsburg and Ludwigshafen for the IKJ in Mainz .
