The Klinaklini River is one of the major rivers in the southern Coast Mountains in British Columbia and one of the few rivers which the mountain range from the Chilcotin Plateau to the fjords cut.

The Klinaklini River rises on the southern flank of Hellraving Peak at about 2400  m . It initially flows in a north-northeast direction, later in an easterly direction through the mountains and after 40 km it reaches the Chilcotin plateau 8.5 km west of the settlement of Tatla Lake . The British Columbia Highway 20 (Chilcotin Bella Coola Highway) runs 23 km west along the river at the foot of the mountains before it turns to the north. The Klinaklini River has many bends on this section of the river . It flows through the 6 km long One Eye Lake and then takes up McClinchy Creek coming from the north on the right. The Klinaklini River now cuts through the Coast Mountains in a predominantly southwestern direction. It flows through the small lake Klinaklini Lake and takes Colwell Creek from the left . The larger tributaries North Klinaklini River and West Klinaklini River flow into the river on the right side. Finally, the Klinaklini River reaches Knight Inlet after approximately 210 km . The Klinaklini River forms several branches of the river that flow into the northern head end of the fjord over a width of 3.6 km. The 5780 km² catchment area of the Klinaklini River extends over the southwest of the Cariboo Regional District and the northeast of the Regional District of Mount Waddington . The mean discharge 7 km above the mouth is 302 m³ / s. The highest monthly runoffs usually occur during the glacial melt in July.

North Klinaklini River

The North Klinaklini River is a right tributary of the Klinaklini River. It forms the outflow of a glacial edge lake in the east of the Monarch Icefield at an altitude of about 1100  m . It initially flows 15 km to the northeast. There the Knot Creek , the outlet of the Knot Lakes , flows into the river from the north. This now turns to the southeast and finally meets the Klinaklini River, 87 km above its mouth.

West Klinaklini River

The West Klinaklini River is a right tributary of the Klinaklini River. It forms the 6 km long outflow of the glacial edge lake of the Klinaklini glacier . After 1.5 km, Tumult Creek meets the river when coming from the southwest. This flows mainly in an east-southeast direction and finally meets the Klinaklini River, 24 km above its mouth.
