Klingen (formerly also Klingenstein ) is a district of the municipality of Bieberehren in the Lower Franconian district of Würzburg .
Geographical location
Klingen is located in the extreme south of the municipality of Bieberehren an der Tauber . It is the southernmost place in Lower Franconia. To the north you can find Bieberehren itself, it is connected to the town hall by the state road St 2268, which is part of the Romantic Road here . The area of Creglingen in the Main-Tauber district of Baden-Württemberg begins in the east and south . The west is occupied by the so-called Bürgerwald von Röttingen .
history
The history of Klingen is closely linked to Klingenstein Castle , which was south of the town. The castle was built in the 13th century and finally burned down during the German Peasant War . The Burgstall is now listed as a ground monument. Like the other districts of Bieberehren, the village belonged for a long time to the Reichelsberg office of the Lords of Hohenlohe-Brauneck . Klingen is predominantly Lutheran, but the Catholic branch church of Bieberehren has been located here since 1883.

Architectural monuments
The Catholic branch church St. Georg is still the center of the village today. The hall building with retracted choir and roof turret to the south has a striking pointed helmet. In addition, several wayside shrines shape the townscape. The oldest of these small monuments comes from the time of the Counter Reformation in the Würzburg monastery and came to Klingen in the 15th century. Most of the objects were erected in the 19th century.
Biking and hiking trails
Klingen is on the Taubertal Cycle Path .
