Sounds Of New Soma is a German krautrock and psychedelic rock band from Krefeld .

history

The band was founded in 2013 by Dirk Raupach, who founded the music label Ton Zonen Records a year earlier , and Alexander Djelassi. They released their debut album Beyond the Acid Dream in 2014 on Raupach's label, supported by saxophonist Andreas Lessenich as a guest musician. For the mastering recorded Eroc responsible. Two years later, the second work Moebius Tunnel followed , which was released as an LP edition (blue vinyl, 300 copies) and in CD format. The band had the cover designed by Mark Reiser, who has already taken on this task for groups like Hawkwind .

For the third work, which was published in April 2017, Eroc was again responsible for the mastering, and as with the debut, Andreas Lessenich was involved as a guest saxophonist. Drummer Armin Schopper was also hired as a studio musician . The fourth album Live at the Green Mushroom Festival followed in April 2018 , the title of which, according to Baby Blue Pages, should be understood more conceptually and does not represent a recording from an actual festival . Schopper was once again involved as a guest drummer. In an interview with Eclipsed , Raupach and Djelassi confirmed the basic assumption: The recordings of the basic tracks actually came from a live situation and there is no festival of this name.

style

" Can , Schickert, Harmonia , Schulze and some other Krauturgesteins" were identified as the source of inspiration on the debut album, which explored "spacey and ambient-like herb electronics spheres" . On the second album, the band remained “deeply rooted in herbaceous electronic soundscapes”, but provided “more ruggedness” with the “guitars with strange, often slightly dissonant objections ( sic! )”. Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk were also mentioned as references for some passages .

On the third and fourth albums, Sounds Of New Soma added to the familiar sound image and a. Elements from jazz and music or post-rock were added. Explicitly for Live at the Green Mushroom Festival the style of musikreviews.de was summarized as “lots of space, little herb”.
