The Kloppenburg GmbH & Co. KG was a drugstore - retail chain with headquarters in Melsdorf (near Kiel ) until March 2013 . It operated exclusively in northern Germany . Since the beginning of 2008 it has been majority owned by Dirk Rossmann GmbH . After the Kloppenburg brand name was initially retained for the majority of the branches, the flag of the remaining branches was also changed to the Rossmann brand at the end of March 2013 .
history
The company was founded in Kiel in 1949 and initially sold textiles and haberdashery . Later, Perfumery -, household, write and toys added. Kloppenburg grew in the following years and at the end of 2007 had more than 160 branches in Schleswig-Holstein , Hamburg , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Lower Saxony , making it the sixth largest drugstore chain in Germany at the time (as of 2007).
At the beginning of 2008 Rossmann took over an 89.9% majority in Kloppenburg. In the course of the cooperation, it was announced that in 2008 70 Kloppenburg branches will be reflagged to Rossmann branches and smaller Rossmann branches closer to that area will be closed. Terminations for Rossmann employees were not excluded.
The seat of Kloppenburg GmbH & Co. KG and its general partner was the Kiel suburb of Melsdorf . At the beginning of May 2012, the previously independent website kloppenburg.de was switched off. Since then, kloppenburg.de has been forwarding to rossmann.de.
