The Aubepierre monastery (Albae petrae, Aube-Pierres; not to be confused with the Aubepierre nunnery in the Haute-Vienne department or the Longuay monastery in the Aubepierre-sur-Aube municipality in the Haute-Marne department ) is a former Cistercian abbey in the Méasnes municipality in the Creuse department , Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , in France , around 20 km north of Dun-le-Palestel . It was in a valley at the confluence of two streams.

history

The monastery, founded in 1149 as a direct subsidiary of the Clairvaux Primary Abbey , has always remained small. However, shortly after its establishment, the subsidiary Les Pierres was founded . The monastery was burned down in 1569 by Protestant troops from the Duke of Zweibrücken . In 1791 the monastery was closed during the French Revolution . It then fell into ruin and was used as a quarry. The rectangular water basin was rebuilt.
