The Eaunes Monastery (La Clarté-Dieu; Elnae) was a Cistercian abbey in the French commune of Eaunes in the Haute-Garonne department of Occitania . It is located about six kilometers southeast of Muret in the land of Comminges . It should not be confused with the La Clarté-Dieu monastery in the Indre-et-Loire department , a subsidiary of the Cîteaux monastery .

history

The abbey, which was founded in 1150 at the instigation of the Lords of Montaut and the Archbishop of Auch and was occupied by monks from Berdoues Monastery , belonged to the filiation of the Morimond Primary Abbey . After the Wars of Religion, the buildings were restored in 1661. After the French Revolution , they were sold and from 1796 largely demolished and the rest turned into an agricultural property. The partially preserved church became the parish church.

Buildings and plant

From the brick-built, cross-rib vaulted church, the choir with a flat end, the transept with two rectangular chapels on each side and the approach of the nave, which was abandoned in the 17th century, have been preserved. The cloister is north (left) of the church. The monk's building is being restored.
