The Monastery Le Relec (Le Relecq; Abbatia de reliquiis) is a former Cistercian abbey in the town of Plounéour-Ménez in the Finistère region Brittany , in France . It is located around 17 kilometers south of Morlaix in the Queffleuth valley .

history

The monastery is probably a Benedictine foundation of Paul Aurelian from the 6th century back, which was called Gerber. The occupation with Cistercian monks took place in 1132 from the mother monastery Bégard , which was itself a daughter of the monastery L'Aumône . Thus Le Relec belonged to the filiation of the Cîteaux monastery . The monastery flourished from the 12th to the 15th centuries, but was sacked in the Hundred Years War in 1375. The land allocation to third parties took place in the system of the Quévaise, which tied the rear seat to the landlord. At the end of the 15th century, the Coming was introduced in Le Relec . During the Huguenot Wars , the monastery was plundered several times, for example in 1598. As a result, it partly fell into ruins. At the beginning of the French Revolution , which brought the end of the monastery, the number of monks was four. The buildings were then sold. The abbey was classified as a Monument historique in 1914 . Today the facility is owned by the General Council of the Department.
