The Sankt-Maria-auf-dem-Georgenberg monastery (also known as Plötzky Monastery ) was a Cistercian monastery in Plötzky in what is now Saxony-Anhalt .

history

The monastery was built at the beginning of the 13th century around 1210 or 1230 at the suggestion and support of the dukes of Saxony-Wittenberg . However, an exact date of foundation is not known. After the Reformation, the monastery was dissolved in 1538. The buildings fell into disrepair and were demolished. Some of the stones were used in buildings in the Gommern moated castle . The demolition of the cloister building started in 1578. The church of the monastery stood until 1793. Today only remains of the eastern monastery wall and parts of a farm building are left as quarry stone masonry . Parts of the choir stalls are now in the Sankt Pancratii Church in Elbenau . There are supposed to be two chairs in the Saint Luke Church in Ranies today.
