The Pontron Monastery (Pons Octranni; Pontrond; Notre-Dame de Pontron) is a former Cistercian abbey in the commune of Le Louroux-Béconnais in the Maine-et-Loire department , Pays de la Loire , in France , around 27 kilometers west of Angers .
history
The monastery was founded on the site of a hermitage in 1134 as the daughter of Le Loroux monastery and thus belonged to the filiation of Cîteaux monastery . In 1145 he founded the Melleray Monastery . The monastery suffered damage during the Hundred Years War . Otherwise little is known about the fortunes of the "rather poor" monastery. It was disbanded in 1791 during the French Revolution . The monastery was demolished in 1852 on the orders of General de Lamoricière . The choir stalls were placed in the Blou Church.
Buildings and plant
Apart from a fountain in the cloister and two farm buildings from the 16th century (probably once a stables and residential buildings) nothing has survived from the monastery .
