The Preuilly Monastery (Prulliacum) is a former Cistercian abbey in the commune of Égligny in the Seine-et-Marne department , Île-de-France region , in France . It was about 21 kilometers southwest of Provins and 15 kilometers east of Montereau-Fault-Yonne .
history
The fifth daughter monastery of the Cîteaux monastery was founded in 1118 by Stephan Harding on land that the Count of Champagne, Thibaut, had made available. The first abbot was Arthaud. The soon-to-be prosperous monastery founded the daughter monasteries Kloster Vauluisant , Kloster Barbeau and Kloster La Colombe . It was devastated and looted in the 14th and 15th centuries. In 1536 it fell into the coming period . The monastery was looted again in 1567 and 1652. The buildings were renovated at the beginning of the 18th century. After the dissolution of the monastery in the French Revolution , the demolition began, which was only carried out after another sale in 1829 to Dr. Husson ended. The buildings have been protected as a monument historique since 1927 .
Buildings and plant
The church from the second third of the 12th century with a preserved, two-bay-deep, flat closed choir with a worn rose window, the transept with a rose window on the south front, and the chapter house are in ruins. The passage from the cloister to the church, armarium, sacristy, part of the walls of the chapter house, as well as the entrance portal of the monastery flanked by two round towers and part of the abbot's house have been preserved. The 13th century town house still stands in Provins.
