The monastery bush is a forest area in Wuppertal - Vohwinkel on the city limits of Solingen - Gräfrath . The name refers to an earlier possession of the Buchenhofen estate , which in turn was entirely owned by the nearby Gräfrath monastery , which was secularized in 1803 . The forest property of the estate in the monastery book comprised an area of 80 hectares.

Location and description

The area is now part of the Burgholz State Forest and is designated as a nature reserve with it. The area lies on a 273 m high ridge that slopes steeply in the east into the western narrow valley of the Wupper . At the foot of the ridge is the current location of Buchenhofen, where the Buchenhofen sewage works is located. In the north there is an agriculturally used area, where the localities of Steeger Eiche , Mühlenpfad and Sonnenberg are located . In the west joins the Dasnöckel , an area that was developed as a residential area in the 1960s and 1970s. In the south, in the city of Solingen, are the locations Schieten , Steinbeck and Flockertsberg . In the south, the Steinbach has created a notch valley that is designated as part of the Steinbachtal nature reserve with devil's cliffs. Another body of water is the Buchenhofener Siepen , which pours from a contained spring and flows down the steep slope in the east.

Several hiking trails cross the area, including the Wuppertaler Rundweg .
