history

The mill was built in 1580 by Lorenz von Guttenberg (owner of the castle Kühlenfels), but was soon torn down by the residents of Pottenstein as undesirable competition. A new building was approved by the Bamberg bishop with the condition that it would only grind for himself and the residents of the manor.

The Bavarian Urkataster recognized in the 1810s, alongside a "Klumpersmühle" a modest outbuilding, a fishpond , a nearly 40 m wide dam and a 3,700 square meter mill pond , which is fed from two sources.

In 1875 Klumpermühle had four residents and three buildings, in 1904 there were still two residents. In 1926 the mill was stopped. The place is no longer mentioned in the official register of places from 1952. The Klumpermühle was part of the former municipality of Kühlenfels . Today only remains of ruins and the fish ponds, which are now fragmented into seven parcels, are left.

Hydrology

The nearby springs, which feed both the Klumperbach and the fish ponds and which formerly drove the mill, are hydrologically and bidirectionally connected to the Pegnitz through karst events . The spring discharge varies with the seasons, but it achieves drinking water quality , which benefits the trout farming there .
